These include loading, sizing, speed of execution, additional needs, and revisions. It takes into account other variables that affect software requirements. It works best in a business environment where business and customer requirements change quickly. Also, there is no exclusivity between these methodologies, and it is possible to use different methods while adhering to the Agile mindset.īased on the traditional process of "plan, design, build, test and deliver," it is well-suited to manufacturing, but not to the rapidly changing customer software requirements. These methodologies have different roots but the same aim. These include extreme programming and Kanban. Other methodologies that adhere to the Manifesto were also developed independently and earlier than Agile. Instead, Scrum has the same goals and adheres to the Manifesto. To be strict about it, Scrum was developed first, and chronologically does not follow Agile. There are more people now studying for Scrum certification compared to those taking their project management certifications. The teams have to organize themselves to allow for the additional overhead of communicating with other teams.Īlthough Scrum was developed earlier and has evolved independently of Agile, it embodies the mindset and is the leading Agile methodology currently in use. For a large project, the implementation would be divided into chunks, each with its small scrum team. Furthermore, it is meant to have small groups with short project durations. Chief among these differences is the lack of a project manager role in Scrum because there is no specified team lead role. There are distinct differences between Scrum and the classical waterfall methodology. Some discussion states that Scrum replaces the traditional project management structure and process, but it is a platform for development and not a project management methodology. Although Scrum had its development path, it has elegantly dovetailed with the Agile mindset.Īs a development platform, Scrum follows the principles of Agile. Since then, it has evolved into a tool embodying the ideas in the Manifesto. One of these is Scrum, which started as a manufacturing methodology first applied in the 1980s.
